My First Typeface Needs a Name

November 29th, 2011

Over the past year I’ve been working on building my first typeface and I’m finally at a point to share it. Yes! However, it’s lacking one important quality: a name. I’ve been looking at it so closely for so long that I wanted some fresh eyes on it so I thought I’d ask my lovely readers for some help. I would love it so much if you could help me brainstorm and post some ideas for names. It could just be words or phrases that come to mind when you see this typeface. Does it remind you of something? A place or person? A culture or tradition? A favorite candy from growing up? Anything.

Thanks so much you guys! I’ll keep this open for a while and let you know what we come up with.

cheers!

  1. It reminds me of the lines in my everyday china, Swedish Lodge (Swedish Garland) by Lenox. I also feel like it has a fresh modern feel to it. Taking from the previous comment, Swedish Stitch? But i like having your name as a part of it too. . . . Let me ponder some more. . . . .
lOVE your work, it is different yet classic but whimsical at the right moments! Well done!!

  2. I agree! It kind of reminds me of stitching! It also kind of reminds of me of the penmanship of my elf who used to leave me letters on our tree as a kid. (Santa was too busy, so my brothers and I would get letters from Sprinkles, Twinkles and Snickerdoodle LOL)

    Maybe, Noel Belle Stitch?

Is Typeface the name for a Mother Font?

    • hahaha….cute Em, thanks. :) Someone’s in the Christmas spirit! I was brainwashed to call them “typefaces” in school. I think it’s technically correct and used as the overarching term like you said.

      • :) Boom! Learned something today! Thanks!

I agree with Kristan, I really like Belle Haus or Haus Stitch too!

  3. It’s playful yet sophisticated. I’ll just throw some ideas out there…

    Sweet tooth
    ice cream
    ice cream shoppe
    cherry
    cherry on top
    Fruit…apples, oranges
    feet…little feet
    baby steps
    footprints
    bells
    jingle bells
    village

These are my random thoughts. I’ll try to think of some more :)

  4. Where did you get your inspiration? Can you tap into that for your name? I agree a modern classic name would be great. What is your family from? If you were from Germany it could be “Belle Haus”. . . Still thinking. . . .

  5. so pretty. it looks sort of Norwegian inspired, reminds me of the little flower planter boxes that you see in the widows of traditional Austrian houses. I think all of the little details in the font plus the curves remind me of an austrian style house with beautiful little feminine details hidden in every nook.

I like Belle Haus. Nordic Lace. The Homelands.

  6. It’s so beautiful! You must let me know if it’s ever available for sale. I would definitely purchase it.

It would be the perfect type for a bakery logo. Classic and simple, perfectly pretty. I would call it Fresh Pastry.

  7. Oooh… I love Ryan’s idea: Village. I feel like there is something mysterious about the font, even when used in bright colors, because it’s so skinny and open, and it has those little curves that you don’t expect. It reminds me of something old and rickety that’s been cleaned up to be all shiny and useful again. Again, I like “Village” alone, but what about: Modern Village, Charmant (german for charming), Village Talisman, Enchanted Village….?

I’m getting the Norwegian feeling too, but I feel like whatever the name is, it could be very well pronounced with a british accent. (poised, lovely, quite right…oohh…”quite wright”!) haha… ok maybe not. Anyway, it looks great. Nice work!
