Jumping Right In & Knitting a Baby Hat

March 16th, 2011

I’ve been crocheting for the past few years but never really picked up knitting (and was kind of ok with it). I have enough half-finished projects sitting around so why start up something else. Well then I saw this little baby hat by the talented Allison Newhouse and I had to learn!

I made it for my friend Erinn’s little guy Oscar and sized it for a one year old. There’s a handy pattern on Ravelry that I used to get everything right. It took longer than expected for me to figure out the basics (ha!) but I think it turned out pretty decent for my first knitting endeavor.

cheers!

  1. Did it ever! I think it turned out amazing! I would never believe that was your FIRST knitting project had you not just said so. It looks so professional. I’ve never tried knitting, but I’ve had a few nudges in that direction in the last few weeks and this adorable hat (and your first-time knitting success) may have just convinced me! :)

    • Thanks Amanda! You totally should. I was quite hesitant too and it took me a while to get the hang of it but I really really needed to make that hat. hahaha.

  2. I had to jump right in like this when I started knitting socks. I found the more interesting the pattern, the more invested I was in finishing the project. ;)

This hat turned out beautifully, and I love the buttons!
