All Smiles
March 2nd, 2011The mystery weekend trip was planned with a hidden agenda and yesterday, Ned and I came back home engaged! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t know it was going to happen but it was still the most perfect weekend and I cannot stop smiling!
He surprised me with a trip up north to Lake Superior. One of our favorite places with the most gorgeous, rough, moody scenery. Cloudy grey most days but sunrises and sunsets that can’t be seen anywhere near a city.
We stayed in a little cabin inches away from the water. So close you could hear the waves lapping from inside. Ice-covered black rocks and pine trees all around. It was quiet. It was small. It was cozy and comfortable.
Even though I knew what was happening it was still ten times better than what I could have imagined. Not because of the event and mystery of it…but because it made it clear that he knows me so well.
I’m sure I’ll be sharing some peeks of fun planning details with you guys when the time comes. One of the best things about the whole thing was that instead of a traditional ring, Ned gave me a really simple band and said that he wanted to design our rings together (maybe even using metals from Minnesota)! Eep! This, my friends, is possibly the most exciting/intimidating thought of all but I’m prepared to face the challenge. (Not like I don’t have a collection of “rings i like” saved away already…). I’ll make sure to share all of that too!

Hooray! Congratulations Laura (and Ned)! Sounds like the perfect weekend.
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!

Yay! Thanks girls!
Congratulations! That is so sweet and so exciting :)
Congrats! That sounds so very romantic. Does the cabin belong to someone you know or is it available for rent? Im always looking for great places to stay up there.
Thanks Mehgan! Yup….it’s part of “Grand Superior Lodge”. It’s just north of Two Harbors. They have rooms as well as a bunch of cabins to rent…all really nice. We’ve been there a few times and then chef at the restaurant there is unbelievable. Definitely worth the trip!
Yay! Heartfelt Congrats all around.
Congratulations!!! Sounds like such a cute getaway. So peaceful. Snuggly :) My husband and I designed our own rings, too! I had so much fun doing it and it was one of the best decisions we made because the rings are so much more special :D Enjoy the process! xo
Thanks for the info! Im putting this place on my list of possible stays for our next trip up there.
